Kiryat Gat

Carmei Gat is a neighborhood of Kiryat Gat

The Carmei Gat neighborhood is a new area of the city of Kiryat Gat which was founded in 1954. Kiryat Gat has a train station, a small mall, a Big shopping center, Yishpro shopping center, a gas station, prepared foods store open for Shabbat, Judaica, dry cleaner and laundry service, optometrists, a shuk (on Wednesdays only), photo/print shops, and more, which currently, are not available in Carmei Gat.

Train

There is an Israel Railways station in Kiryat Gat, in the industrial zone in the east of Kiryat Gat. The station is accessible by intracity bus routes 1, 2, 3, 4 (and their variants 11, 12, 13, 14), operated by Dan BaDarom.

At peak times there are two trains per hour in each direction to and from Tel Aviv (and points north) and Be'er Sheva; it's approximately 30-45 minutes to each city. Service drops to one train per hour at off-peak times. Early morning trains to and from the station also stop at the airport.

Shuk

In the big empty car park at the bottom of HaGefen Street in Kiryat Gat, there’s a shuk every Wednesday. Parking in the whole area can be really tricky on Wednesdays; it's best to park in the library parking lot and proceed on foot. It opens early in the morning, usually fully open by 8am, and closes around 6pm. Stalls include clothes, shoes, toys, kitchen and house goods, mitpachot, and much more. A short walk away, down HaAvodah Street, there is a fruit and vegetable market during the same hours.

Library

There is a public library in Kiryat Gat. The main floor has books for children, youth, and novels for adults, in mostly in Hebrew, English, and Russian. There are also computers and a small coloring area and a reading area with bean bag chairs. On the second floor is reference material and tables for quiet study and research.

Swimming pools

There are two pools in Kiryat Gat: Arba Onot is open year round and Shoftim is open for only a couple of months in the summer. They have separate and mixed hours and you can buy individual entrances or an unlimited membership.

Government services

Bituach Leumi, the postal service, and almost all other government departments have local branches in Kiryat Gat. As of mid-2024, there are none in Carmei Gat.

Shopping centers

There are four shopping centers in Kiryat Gat. Yishpro and Big are larger, iSolomon and the mall are smaller. There are more local shops just behind the mall. Note that many stores in Kiryat Gat close early on Tuesday, and/or close between 2pm and 4pm on weekdays.
